I only learnt of Michaels passing today. As children we were friends in Ellesmere port playing in the local fields. I had not seen Michael since those days but think of him often. I would like to tell the story of the time Michael saved my life. During the summer in the early 1970’s we were all playing by the canal where the foundations of the M53 bridge were being laid. It was here I fell into a flooded pit, I could not swim, feel the bottom nor climb out at it was too high and full of mud. I came up for air for the last time and noticed Michael and another friend Robert Goss running towards me, they both pulled me out….they save my life that day and for that I have always thought of them both.
